Welcomed as old friends, we have stayed before. The room was as expected, clean and just ready for a lovely stay. The dinner menu was as vast as usual with the specials added and all cooked to perfection.Breakfast sets you up for the day and then back for a treat in the evening. If you don't mind narrow roads and the odd pheasant jumping out of a hedge this is the place to stay in the area.

I spent a lovely weekend staying here whilst visiting local relatives. The Owners and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. As one would expect, the heart of the place is the bar which is strongly supported by the locals but in which you are made to feel most welcome. There are three dining areas off the bar including a garden room. The menu is extensive and the meals were excellent. The cooked to order breakfasts were enormous! A big room with a large bathroom and everything worked as well as being spotless. This place is a real find. Enjoy it!

We stumbled across the Blacksmiths a couple of years back, and now most of our family. (From Wales and Cumbria) visit. We look forward to our next visit.

I stayed here for one night and couldn’t have been better looked after. The food in the bar/restaurant was all home cooked and delicious.Room nice and including everything I needed. I’d also booked a single room but was upgraded without asking to a double as the place wasn’t full that night. The village is lovely and would provide a great base for exploring. I will definitely be back at the earliest opportunity.

We had 3 nights at your pub. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent. A couple of the girl waitresses were a little offhand. Our room was rather small for a three night stay. We would recommend it to anyone but do not stay in room no. 7. If not for the room we would rate it top marks.

My shot in the dark hit the bull dead centre. I booked two nights online (knowing nought of where I was going)aftervisiting family in London. There was some difficulty finding Talkin (Brampton Police Station was very helpful) but it was well worth the effort. The Blacksmiths Arms and the village are truly delightful. The B.A. staff from waitresses to owners were most welcoming and the quality of the accommodation/service is of the highest order. This place is a gem in every way. Thank you.

We have stayed at the Blacksmiths Arms on a few occasions. It is a perfect stopover on our journey from our home in the north of Scotland to relatives in the southern part of England. It is just what the village pub should be. There is a good choice of real ales which are beautifully kept, the choice of house wines is unbelievable and the food is superb. The rooms are very comfortable and the showers are fantastic. All of the staff are extremely helpful and the reception you get makes you feel more like a local than a strangerin such a short space of time. My onlyregret about the Blacksmiths is that we live too far away for it to be "our local". Already looking forward to our next stay with you.

I spent two nights at the Blacksmiths Arms in gorgeous weather. I would certainly stay there again.Set in the peaceful small village of Talkin in north Cumbria, it was a good base from which to explore the western end of the Roman Wall.My room was small but spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a large bathroom with bath and separate shower. TV service had a far larger selection of channels than is usual. Wi-fi in my room was patchy but my tablet can be temperamental!Breakfast was freshly cooked to order. Not a wide selection but perfectly adequate and very good.Enormous portions at dinner.Standard pub grub, but very tasty.I can particularly recommend the liver and bacon casserole.Service was friendly and good.I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Blacksmiths Arms.

With a view to visiting the nearby Roman Army Museum and Roman Vindolanda site one recent weekend we booked an overnight stay here and it was ideal. This Free House pub is family run ( 3 generations now working together) and is very welcoming and friendly. The bedroom we had was a good size with an excellent bathroom with large walk-in shower. Our lovely evening meal in the dining room was competetively priced as was the surprising range of red wines offered. The bar reflects it's Freehouse status and offers several cask ales along with other options. With our experience we will be making a return sometime in the future.

Breakfast was well cooked and delicious, the choice of evening meals was wide with a selection of "specials"changed regularly. The wines were priced sensibly and the food was all home cooked using the best ingredients. The choice of real ales was also good, plus a wide selection of gins! The Blacksmiths Arms is the ideal base to visit Hadrian's Wall and other local attractions. We really enjoyed our stay at the family run Blacksmiths Arms. We were made to feel like friends rather than paying guests. The room was spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was huge. The food was good and the breakfasts a 'full English'. We recommend this as a place to stay.

A very comfortable stay, good service, friendly staff and good food. The room was however noisy due to being over the bar, this did not bother us but a light sleeper may have found it difficult.

Fantastic stay whilst walking Hadrian's Wall.Good food, great beer, comfortable room.Above all, really personal and welcoming service. My only criticism would be that the website does not do the Blacksmiths Arms justice.Better photos and menus visible online would improve things.

We found the Blacksmiths Arms staff and hosts very friendly and welcoming. The room (Room 7)was very clean and comfortable with an extremely large ensuite. The evening meal with a extensive menu was very nice and reasonably priced also a decent sized tasty breakfast.Personally I couldnt fault this Hostelry.

Overall the pub fell short of expectations. The staff were helpful and friendly and the venue was excellent, but we had a small annex bedroom with a very poor mattress and a bathroom which would benefit from a serious upgrade. The food was standard pub fare and the whole bar/dining experience was very second rate. This establishment has a lot of potential, but it is still to be realised!

The Blacksmiths Arms was a fantastic place to stop, the owners and staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, they even take time to to talk to you and make you very welcome. Food quality was excellent, cleanliness was ten out of ten. Overall it's a place you are sad to leave but happy in the knowledge you will return.

We stayed a night during a tour of The Wall and The Lakes. This is one of two Hotels used and by far the best for quality, food, rooms service and atmosphere. We would definitely go back and I can recommend it whole heartedly. We chose a Saturday night that must have been the busiest the pub/restaurant had seen for some time, so there was a little delay on food but hardly noticeable and to be honest the staff dealt with it so well it didn't matter. Room was nicely appointed (what a shower!!), comfy, clean AND the window opened properly.

Arriving at the Blacksmith's Arms cold and muddy, it was lovely to be met and taken to our room with no fuss. Evening meals started at six, we ate in the bar although there was a lovely dining room if you wanted something more formal.Meals were so nice we decided there and then to eat in house on Saturday as well.Breakfast comes well recommended too. All staff were polite and helpful, resulting in a relaxing stay. The room was comfortable and clean, we would certainly stop here again.

Great pub in a tiny village surrounded by beautiful country. Friendly staff, lovely good-sized room with tv and ensuite shower and a window overlooking the centre of the village. Very comfortable bed. I prefer a thicker duvet but the room was very warm (in midwinter) with an easily-controllable heater. Seriously good full english. For the price it's excellent value. It seems to be the hub of the neighbourhood, I can see why people come back and if I return to the area it would be the obvious choice. They also do lunch and dinner with an above-average pub menu.

My wife and I only stayed one night, however if we had not been tied to a strict schedule we would have tried to stay longer. The room we had was spotlessly clean, large and airy with a settee in front of the TV (a little lounge) and the pub and meals were delightful. I would recommend this pub to my most discerning friends.

Our room (1) was not very large but the bed was very comfortable and the shower excellent. Breakfast was cooked to order, so rather slow, but delicious! On Saturday the bar was still open for a nightcap at midnight - much appreciated! The owners and their staff wee really friendly. A gem, ideally situated for exploring Hadrian's wall.

My wife and I came up from the deep south (wiltshire)to visit our son and family in Brampton and do a bit of exploring in the area. The Blacksmiths Arms seemed a convenient place to stay so was duly booked. Our plans had to change by one day, but contact with the pub was most reassuring - no problem, was the reply! When we duly arrived, the staff were very enthusiastic and friendly and answered any queries that we had. The room (room 1) was great and the shower was spot on - always something we tend to judge hotels by! Parking was a little tricky as we arrived on the Friday evening and the place was packed with diners' cars, rightly so as the food turned out to be great! I would recommend the Blacksmiths to anyone. My only slight 'gripe' (not the establishments fault) was a bloody peacock in neighboring property, that yelled and woke us up each morning!

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying (all to briefly) at the Blacksmith's Arms.We received a genuinely warm welcome on arrival and it was obvious from the outset that nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely view of the village green/crossroads.We had a bar meal, which was delicious and very good value for money. We'll definitely be back to this lovely inn.

In many ways a delightful 3 days spent at the Blacksmiths Arms. Such a friendly family, great location with fabulous views, nothing seemed too much trouble. Whilst the basics were great, I think an update in bedroom decor and more choice at breakfast (fruit/yoghurt/porridge) would make it a five star venue

We have stayed at the Blacksmiths Arms for the last 4 years prior to our Annual Golf Day at Brampton Golf Club.We are always met with a smile and a staff are so friendly and helpful. The room was nice, functional and the bathroom was really nicely appointed. We had a meal in the bar and it was really nice, as always.Loads of options on the normal menu and a specials menu too.We all enjoyed our food a lot.We spent the evening in the bar and again staff very friendly. We were going to be leaving in the morning before breakast and the wonderful owners put on an early breakfast for us especially.A great place in a lovely little village. We look forward to being back next year!

We wanted somewhere to stay, near to Penrith and the Lakes and found this little surprise package. Very nice owners and staff, comfy room-called garden room-wide choice of food including specials and extremely good Cumbrian breakfast. A short walk from Talkin Tarn and easy access to where we wanted to be. Will definitely return.

We were made very welcome from the moment we walked into the Blacksmith Arms. The room was large and very comfortable.Spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom. The food was well cooked with a good menu and excellent service. The breakfast was even better, if that was possible, and all freshly cooked. If there was one complaint it was that the bed was a bit hard - but that is only our view.We will be visiting again and highly recommend the Blacksmith Arms.

The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly, never ignoring you, always speaking and asking if everything was all right Nothing was any trouble to anybody. Mr Jackson booked us our taxi to take us to the wedding we were attending. Would highly recommend this establishment to all our family and friends.Hope to stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at The Blacksmiths Arms - friendly staff, good atmosphere and very comfortable accomodation. Sorry I had to leave so early the next morning (to participate in a sponsored walk on Hadrian's Wall) but my partner thoroughly enjoyed the cooked breakfast and I appreciated the packed lunch given to me in lieu of breakfast. We thoroughly recommend your establishment!

Stayed at the Blacksmiths during a walk of the Hadriand Wall path, not ideal for this as it's 6 miles from the wall. That aside I would stay here again without hesitation.Very friendly Management, extremely pleasant and attentive waitress. Dinner was fantastic (liver &bacon casserole) and very reasonably priced. The pub itself is warm, friendly &full of old world charm. Rooms were extremely clean and included the best breakfast I sampled all week, great value for money. All in all a very good experience in a lovely pub situated in a beautiful little village. Will be back

Our Annual Golf Day was at local Brampton Golf Club, so natural place to stay for that, being only 5 minutes away.As per last 2 years we have stayed at the Blacksmiths Arms, hospitality was excellent. Varied and vast choice of items on the menu and food was superb! Nice choice of local Ales at the bar and pleasant surroundings.Bar area was very busy for a Thursday night, so popular with the locals.Room was nice and well appointed too.

The only thing warmer than the welcome you'll receive, Is the food from the restaurant. Ideally positioned for the Roman sites along Hadrians wall or equally the many walking trails. The accommodation is excellent clean and well maintained. The menu in the restaurant is wide and varied and yummy for my tummy.

Really enjoyed our stay. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy with very friendly staff. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, there is lots of choice on the evening menu and very reasonable bar prices. Perhaps avoid room 1(above the bar) if you want an early night but otherwise no complaints at all.

We have just spent an enjoyable 2 days with friends at The Blacksmiths Arms. Our rooms were comfortable and all the staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. There was an extensive dinner menu to satisfy all in our group, and the atmosphere in the bar was relaxed and friendly. The full english breakfast was cooked to perfection. There are several local walks down country lanes, past babbling brooks, up to the moors, or down to the nearby tarn. Close by is the historic Hadrian's Wall with a well-mapped footpath. We had a great time and enjoyed it all.

Many thanks to the Jackson family for their warm and friendly hospitality. I stayed one night whilst walking Hadrians Wall. The stride south via Lanercost, the old railway line to Brampton Station and Talkin Tarn was well worth it. Great beers, 14 wines by the glass and an 8oz fillet steak to die for! Hearty breakfast which was presented beautifully. Fully recommended whatever your reason to visit this wonderful part of Cumbria - Roger Flint, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

I stay here regularly as the company I work for is just up the road, and I have to say, it's a delightful place. Hidden and a little out of the way, with fabulous countryside in all direction, it's a perfect get away from it all location.....and it's just 20 mins from Carlisle, if you become tired of talking to sheep.... landlord is a scream, and the staff are all lovely, food is exceptional, and the hotel itself is just what you'd expect, in a quiet rural village....shame I'm almost always there with my boss, but having said that, he does pay the bill....bless him!!!
